FAQ
| Q: Is your Facility Accredited? A: We are licensed by the State of South Dakota as a "specialty hospital" capable of caring for same day surgical patients as well as patients requiring extended surgical hospital stays. Our credentialing standards assure safety and quality of care for our patients. We are also accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC). Q: My Child is having surgery, what should I know? A: The surgical Center encourages family interaction. You will be able to be with your child much of the pre-surgical and recovery time. Since your child will probably want your individual attention the day of surgery, we suggest that you do not bring other children with you to the Surgical Center. In addition, we require at least one parent or guardian be at the Surgical Center at all times. Children may bring a special toy or blanket with them to the Surgical Center. Q: How do I prepare for surgery? A: The surgical staff will call you several days prior to your surgery. If you haven't been contacted by 4:00 pm the day before your surgery, please call us at (605) 225-3300 or Toll Free 1-888-340-8607. Q: Can I eat or drink before surgery? A: It is important that your stomach be empty for surgery. It is absolutely necessary that you fast after midnight the night before surgery. This means NO FOOD, NO WATER OR OTHER FLUIDS, NO GUM, NO HARD CANDY, unless you are directed to do so by one of the Surgery Center staff members. Avoid alcoholic beverages and refrain from smoking 24 hours before and after surgery. Q: I am sick, can I still have surgery? A: If you develop a cold, fever, rash, cough, or sore throat before your scheduled surgery, please contact your physician. Q: When can friends and family visit? A: An adult member of your family or a friend may wait with you before your surgery and may visit with your doctor following surgery. This person will be referred to as your care partner. An assortment of beverages and pastries are provided for those accompanying patients. Normal visiting hours are from 10:30am to 9:00pm. Your care partner may remain with you 24 hours a day if desired. The entrance to Recovery Care is located at the main entrance of the facility. This door remains open during visiting hours. If you need to enter Recovery Care and the door is locked, press the intercom button located at the entrance. Q: Can I drive myself home after surgery? A: After your physician has released you to go home, your nurse will help you plan the time that your driver should arrive at the Dakota Plains Surgical Center. For your health and safety, we cannot permit you to drive yourself home. Q: We are from out of town, is there a place for me as the patient to stay with my care partner prior to and following surgery, if needed? A: For your convenience, Dakota Plains Surgical Center has arranged discounted pricing for overnight lodging at two conveniently located Aberdeen motels; Super 8 Motel/North at 1023 8th Ave. NW, telephone (605) 226-2288 and Best Western Ramkota Inn at 1400 8th Ave. NW., telephone (605) 229-4040. Please contact us at (605) 225-3300 for more information or to make a reservation. Q: What items should I bring for my surgery? A: We will provide hospital gowns, robe and slippers.
